finally a link to the peace boat pics

it's about the 1 year mark since reba and i packed up our lives in japan, sent exactly 18 tightly stuffed boxes on a questionable freighter, and boarded another questionable floating vessel for an unforgettable trip around this good earth. we've been trying to keep in touch with the friends we've made on the peace boat, and hopefully some day we could see some of them again. who knows what direction all of our lives will take. maybe the randomness of the universe will lead a few of us on the same path again. time will tell. until then we'll keep chasing after that seemingly impossible dream of a life that makes sense to us. what does this all mean for you? nothing really. but at least you can take a gander at some of our photos from the trip. these are just a few from the beginning of the trip. more and more gigabytes to follow.

peace boat pics

i know it has been a long time. i guess since the boat made its way back to yokohama, i haven't had much need to add anything to this site. well, that was true until today. here is a more complete album of pics from the voyage. enjoy.

full circle

i'm back in tokyo again. yesterday, i put reba on an airport bus for narita, and as far as i know she's back home in the loving arms of her family. i'm still in the big concrete monster that is tokyo - trying to center my thoughts on where we have been and where we are going. sometimes i think it's too much for this little guy to think about.

the day after we got back we went to the hand over ceremony for the new teachers. all them were bright-eyed and fresh for circumnavigating this good earth. we (the old teachers) wished them luck and tried to give them the best advice 12 sea weary travelers could.

Back in Alaska again!

well, for me at least. reba and i are trying to stay warm and dry in a seward, alaska during a very moist season. it's out last stop on this tour, and we're feeling it. we've been busy wrapping up our classes and ushering our students back into life after the boat. it's been good having a hand in making a program from start to finish.

EXIT glacier - 10 years ago when i was a wee 22 year old i visited this little spot, climbed up the side of a hill to get a better look of the ice field, and lost my hat to hurricane force winds. at that time 4 years of college life had withered my body into a fat greasy mess. so, i was unable to chase after it. today, i'm prepared to go back (maybe) and retrieve it.

at the very least it's good to be back in this beautiful place. even though it will be for only a half a day.
